Although Manhattan’s Financial District doesn’t get as much attention as some of the borough’s most well-known neighborhoods – such as Times Square or the Village – the area has some of the city’s top sights and more than its share of museums, historic locales and family activities.
Located on the southern tip of Manhattan, the Financial District (nicknamed “FiDi”) is home to the headquarters of many of the city’s financial institutions, such as the New York Stock Exchange and Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The proximity of the Stock Exchange and Wall Street – but also the New York Mercantile Exchange, NASDAQ and New York Board of Trade – have resulted in the Financial District being considered the leading financial center of the nation and world.
